💡What’s new

Hyperspectral Satellites

Traditional satellites see just a few light wavelengths. But with over 400, you can do things like determine mineral content on (not under) the ground.

Cool! But useful? The jury is still out.

In the context of staged funding, it’s interesting to think about asset tracking. If investors can see efficiencies (and returns) gained through process changes and tech adoption, it would be a path toward higher funding levels. Satellite images may be an easier reach than augmenting every asset with IoT.

Esper is one of a handful of startups launching hyperspectral at a lower price point (and currently raising seed round capital).

🤔 Opinion

FOMO - Fear Of Missing Out .. on the battery metals boom. The best way to combat fear is to Stop and Think. Market data shows that coal, not battery metals, was the highest performing mineral asset in 2022.

FUD - Fear, Uncertainty, Doubt. How should you react to AI tools like ChatGPT? Yann Lecun, chief of AI at META, has been saying that generative AI lacks grounding in reality. The results it produces are often incoherent and made up.
